2005 Trysports, Bicester

Trysports are a specialist sporting goods store in Oxfordshire providing very wide ranges for hockey, football and cricket. We have provided web-services to Trysports for many years and have now released their first online-sales site. The eCommerce site allows them a great deal of flexibility with the content and options required to display a wide range of products.

Despite its age, the Trysports online sports shop still works very well and produces a good turnover. Trysports is a bespoke eCommerce site where we used Lasso as the web development middleware language.

The website runs alongside two physical shops in Bicester, Oxfordshire, concentrating on Cricket, Hockey and Football sporting equipment and clothing.

PDF Catalogues

The website also partially replaces expensive printed catalogues although these are still posted out to subscribers - a pdf version of the same catalogue is also available from the website. Sometimes, it can be quicker to browse scan through a printed or pdf page of a catalogue where many items are grouped together, compared to an ecommerce site where you generally have just one product per page.

Bespoke CMS

The site uses a completely bespoke content management system (CMS) which easily handled the specific needs of how Trysports likes to work. Many off -the-shelf shopping carts force you to change your methods of business, which can be time-consuming and costly for an established business. In the case of Trysports, they have unusual requirements for how they discount by quantity and how they calculate overall postage (an order could consist of a large, heavy goalpost set and 100 practise cones, or vary from a single to a box of 100 cricket balls).

The CMS also allows Trysports to decide how products are displayed - e.g. grouped by manufacturer, in lists or using thumbnails.
